The Witherspoon Institute
Program in Business and Ethics
The Program in Business and Ethics aims to address contemporary concerns about business governance. In recent years, scandal after scandal has roiled the corporate world and revealed the need for reform. Stricter legal regulation of business has been proposed, but such measures have imposed unexpected social and economic costs while generating limited benefits. What are needed are an elevated sense of business as a calling and renewal of the moral culture of enterprise. The Program in Business and Ethics proposes to re-think the nature of business in light of philosophical reflection on human flourishing and the common good. It places special emphasis on ways to address more adequately the needs of the human person and the family in a free-market economy.
