David C. Sperling
is Research Professor and Special Advisor to the Vice Chancellor at
Strathmore University in Kenya. He is the Director of the Strathmore
Governance Center, established in 2007, in collaboration with the
Hills Program on Governance of the Center of Strategic and
International Studies, to promote the study of corporate and
institutional governance in Africa.
Previous to his current academic appointments, Dr. Sperling lectured
in the Department of History at the University of Nairobi. He has held Visiting Fellowships at the Institution for
Social and Policy Studies at Yale University and at the Harry Truman
Institute, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Sperlings ongoing
research concerns Fundamentalism and African expressions of Islam
and Christianity in East Africa, and issues related to the impact of
globalization on poverty in Africa. Dr. Sperling received his BA from
Yale University, his MA from Harvard, and his PhD from the School of
Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
